DriveABLE Referral Guide
Individuals of all ages whose driving competence is questionable due to a medical condition, medication or a natural decline affecting cognitive abilities are appropriate for referral. Several conditions are red flags for driving impairment. The most common conditions that prompt a referral to DriveABLE are listed below. These conditions are associated with increased crash risk & cognitive changes affecting driving ability.
Health professionals working with patients who have any of the above chronic medical conditions should use the SIMARD MD screening test to determine whether a formal driving evaluation is required. If the outcome of the screening test indicates that the individual is medically at-risk, a referral to DriveABLE should be made.
